How to Fix AppFabric Installation Failed Because Installer MSI Returned with Error Code 1603?

Appfabric installation failed because installer msi returned with error code : 1603 is a Microsoft error code that indicates a problem with the installation process. This error code can be caused by a number of factors, including incorrect file permissions, a corrupt registry, or a corrupt installation file.

1. Try uninstalling and then reinstalling AppFabric

  1. Restart your computer
  2. Download and run the AppFabric installer.
  3. Follow the instructions in the installer.
  4. Reinstall AppFabric if prompted.

2. Try running the AppFabric installer as an administrator

  1. Open the AppFabric installer.
  2. Click the Install button.
  3. At the Select Destination Location screen, click the Browse button.
  4. Navigate to the C:\AppFabric\installer folder.
  5. Click the MSI File button.
  6. Locate the AppFabric_1.0.5000.msi file.
  7. Click the Open button.
  8. Click the Next button.
  9. At the License Agreement screen, click the I Accept The License Agreement button.
  10. At the Summary screen, review the information and click the Next button.
  11. At the Installation Type screen, select the Customize Installation radio button and click the Next button.
  12. At the Destination Folder screen, click the Browse button.
  13. Navigate to the C:\AppFabric\install\installer\bin folder.
  14. Click the Add button.
  15. Locate the appfabric.log file.
  16. Click the Add button.
  17. Locate the appfabric.properties file.
  18. Click the Add button.
  19. Click the Next button.
  20. At the Destination File Name screen, type the name of the application and click the Next button.
  21. At the User Account Control screen, click the Yes button.
  22. At the Confirm Installation Location screen, click the Install button.
  23. At the Installation Completed screen, click the Finish button.
  24. Close the AppFabric installer.

3. Check to see if there are any other programs running that might be blocking the AppFabric installation

  1. Open your Windows Task Manager and look for any programs that are using a lot of CPU or memory. If you find any, close them down.
  2. Try to run the AppFabric installation again, but this time use the command line.
  3. If the installation still fails, there might be another program blocking the installation. Try uninstalling the program and then trying the installation again.

4. Try temporarily disabling any antivirus or security software that might be running

  1. Close all open programs.
  2. Click on Start, type msconfig in the Search field and press Enter.
  3. Click the Startup tab and uncheck all the boxes next to the appfabric software you want to disable.
  4. Click on OK to exit msconfig.
  5. Restart your computer.
  6. Install the appfabric software again.
  7. Check if the installation has now succeeded.

5. Check to see if there are any pending Windows updates that need to be installed

  1. Open Windows Update in Control Panel.
  2. If there are any pending updates, they will be listed in the Windows Update window.
  3. You can either click the “Install updates” button to install all the updates, or select the updates that you want to install.
  4. If the updates fail to install, then you will see a message that says “The update installation failed because installer msi returned with error code: 1603.”

  1. Make sure that the .NET Framework 4.0 is installed and working properly.
  2. Try manually installing the required Windows components for AppFabric.
  3. Try repairing the .NET Framework 4.0.
