How can I fix the error code 0x80040902?

The 0x80040902 error code is a Windows error that can occur when trying to install or update a program. This error can also occur when trying to run a program that has been installed. This error is usually caused by a corrupt or missing file.

1. Restart your computer and try again

  1. If your computer is on, turn it off.
  2. Remove any external devices, such as USB drives, DVDs, or CDs.
  3. Turn your computer on and wait for the startup environment to load.
  4. Press the "F2" key to open the BIOS or UEFI menu.
  5. In the BIOS or UEFI menu, choose the "Restart" option.
  6. After your computer restarts, choose the "Repair" option.
  7. In the "Repair" option, choose the "Advanced Options" option.
  8. In the "Advanced Options" option, choose the "Restart" option.
  9. After your computer restarts, choose the "OK" option to fix the error code.

2. Check your internet connection and try again

  1. Open your internet browser and type "https://www.google.com" into the address bar.
  2. If you are using a desktop computer, click on the Google sign in button. If you are using a mobile device, tap on the Google icon and sign in.
  3. After you sign in, click on the "Search" button and type in the error code that you were getting.
  4. If you are using a desktop computer, click on the "Results" tab and then on the "Details" button.
  5. If you are using a mobile device, tap on the "Google" icon and open the "Google Search" app. Then, type in the error code.
  6. Near the top of the page, you will see a box that says "Link ID." In the box, type in the link ID that you were getting the error code on.
  7. Near the bottom of the page, you will see a box that says "Page Title." In the box, type in the title of the webpage that you were getting the error code on.
  8. Near the top of the page, you will see a box that says "HTTP Status Code." In the box, type in the status code that you were getting the error code on.
  9. Near the bottom of the page, you will see a box that says "URL." In the box, type in the URL that you were getting the error code on.
  10. If you are using a desktop computer, click on the "Refresh" button.
  11. If you are using a mobile device, tap on the "Refresh" button and then on the "OK" button.

3. Update your anti-virus software and run a scan

  1. Open your anti-virus software.
  2. Click on “Update”.
  3. On the “Update” window, click on “Check for Updates”.
  4. On the “Check for Updates” window, click on “Yes”.
  5. On the “Update” window, click on “Install Updates”.
  6. On the “Install Updates” window, click on “Yes”.
  7. On the “Install Updates” window, click on “Scan Now”.
  8. On the “Scan Now” window, click on “OK”.
  9. After the scan is finished, click on “OK”.
  10. Close your anti-virus software.

4. Run the Windows System File Checker tool

  1. Open the Windows System File Checker tool by clicking on Start, typing system file checker in the search box, and hitting ENTER.
  2. Click on the Check Now button.
  3. Select the file or files that you want to check.
  4. Click on the Check Files button.
  5. If the files that you selected are not up to date, the tool will tell you that and provide instructions on how to update them.
  6. Click on the Close button.

5. Install the latest Windows updates

The steps to install the latest Windows updates to fix error code 0x80040902 are as follows:

  1. Open the Windows Update utility by clicking on Start, typing Windows Update and clicking on the Windows Update icon.
  2. Click on the View Installed Updates button.
  3. Select the check box next to the update that you want to install.
  4. Click on the Install button.
  5. After the update is installed, click on the OK button.

6. Try running the game or program in compatibility mode

  1. Start the game or program in compatibility mode.
  2. If the game or program crashes or does not run properly, try re-installing the program or game.
  3. If the game or program still does not run properly, try troubleshooting the program or game issues.
