How do I fix the Windows Installer Error Code 65535?

This error code happens when the Windows Installer encounters an error. This can be caused by a corrupt installation file, or a corrupt registry.

1. Restart your computer and try running the installer again

-Type "cmd" in the search bar and press Enter -Type "reset" in the command prompt and press Enter -Type "restart" in the command prompt and press Enter -Wait for your computer to restart and then try running the installer again

2. Try running the installer as an administrator

  1. Right-click on the Windows Installer icon on your desktop and select Run As Administrator.
  2. If prompted by the User Account Control dialog box, click Yes to continue.
  3. The Windows Installer window will open.
  4. Click on the Install button.
  5. If prompted by the User Account Control dialog box, click Yes to continue.
  6. The Windows Installer window will display the available installation packages.
  7. Click on the package that you want to install.
  8. The Windows Installer window will display the available components for the package.
  9. Click on the components that you want to install.
  10. The Windows Installer window will display the licensing information for the components that you have selected.
  11. If you have selected any optional components, click on the Add button to add them to the installation package.
  12. If you have selected any language packs, click on the Add button to add them to the installation package.
  13. Click on the Install button to install the package.
  14. If the installation fails, click on the Report button to view the error message and to provide feedback to Microsoft.

3. Temporarily disable your antivirus software and try running the installer again

4. Uninstall any previous versions of the software you are trying to install

  1. Open the Control Panel
  2. Click on Uninstall a program
  3. Click on the program you want to uninstall
  4. Click on the Uninstall button
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions

5. Delete the temporary files that the installer creates

  1. Double-click the "Windows Installer Cleanup" tool in the "Windows Components" folder on your desktop.
  2. In the "Windows Installer Cleanup" window, click the "Fix Uninstallers and Fix Files" button.
  3. The "Fix Uninstallers and Fix Files" window will appear.
  4. On the "Fix Uninstallers and Fix Files" window, click the "Delete Files" button.
  5. The "Delete Files" window will appear.
  6. On the "Delete Files" window, select the files that you want to delete.
  7. Click the "OK" button.
  8. The "Delete Files" window will close.

6. Repair your registry

  1. Boot your computer into Safe Mode with Networking
  2. Click on Start, type regedit in the search box, and press Enter.
  3. If the Registry Editor window opens, click on the File menu, and then click on Export.
  4. In the Export Registry File window, enter a filename for the registry file (for example, registry_file_name.reg), and click on Save.
  5. Close the Registry Editor window.
  6. Reboot your computer into Normal Mode.
  7. Copy the registry file you exported in step 3 to a location on your computer (for example, C:\Windows\System32).
  8. Open the Registry Editor window, and click on the plus sign (+) next to the registry location you copied in step 7.
  9. In the Add/Remove Programs window, click on the Add/Remove Windows Components button.
  10. In the Add/Remove Windows Components window, click on the Windows folder.
  11. In the Windows folder, click on the Windows Installer folder.
  12. In the Windows Installer folder, click on the MsiExec.exe file.
  13. In the MsiExec.exe file, click on the Open button.
  14. In the Open MsiExec.exe window, click on the Run button.
  15. In the Run MsiExec.exe window, type the following command, and press Enter: MsiExec.exe /I c:\Windows\System32\registry_file_name.reg
  16. Click on the Close button.
  17. Reboot your computer.
