Windows Mail is an email client that comes installed on some versions of the Windows operating system. This error code happens when there is a problem with the account settings in Windows Mail.

1. Enable POP in Gmail settings

  1. Open the Gmail app on your device.
  2. In the top left corner of the screen, click the gear icon.
  3. In the gear menu, click Settings.
  4. In the Settings window, click Accounts and POP.
  5. In the Accounts and POP window, click the Add Account button.
  6. In the Add Account window, enter your Gmail address and password.
  7. Click the Next button.
  8. In the Verification window, click the Confirm button.
  9. Click the Done button.
  10. In the Accounts and POP window, click the Enable POP button.
  11. In the Enable POP window, click the OK button.
  12. In the Accounts and POP window, click the Save Changes button.

2. Change the port number that Windows Mail uses to connect to the POP server

  1. Open Windows Mail.
  2. Click the Gear icon in the top left corner of the window.
  3. Click the Options button.
  4. Click the POP tab.
  5. Change the port number to the one that the POP server is using.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Restart Windows Mail.

3. Change the outgoing mail (SMTP) port number in Windows Mail

  1. Open the Windows Mail app.
  2. In the top left corner, click the three lines in a triangle.
  3. Click the Settings gear icon.
  4. In the Settings gear box, click the Accounts and Import tab.
  5. In the Accounts and Import dialog box, click the Outgoing mail (SMTP) port number link.
  6. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) port number dialog box, click the Modify link.
  7. In the Modify outgoing mail (SMTP) port number dialog box, enter the new outgoing mail (SMTP) port number.
  8. Click OK to save the changes.

4. Configure Windows Mail to use SSL

  1. Open Control Panel>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Windows Mail
  2. On the General tab, select the Use SSL option.
  3. In the SSL Certificate Selector, select the certificate to use.
  4. In the Server Name field, type the name of the server where the certificate is located.
  5. In the Port field, type the port on which the server is located.
  6. Click OK.
  7. In the SSL Certificate Selector, select the certificate to use.
  8. In the Server Name field, type the name of the server where the certificate is located.
  9. In the Port field, type the port on which the server is located.
  10. Click OK.
  11. In the Security Options dialog box, select the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) check box.
  12. In the Security Type field, select the type of security to use.
  13. Click OK.
  14. Close Windows Mail.

5. Set up a new account in Windows Mail

  1. Open Windows Mail.
  2. Click on the “New Mail Account” link in the top toolbar.
  3. Fill out the necessary information, such as your name, email address, and password.
  4. Click on the “Create Account” button.
  5. Windows Mail will now start populating your new account with mail.
