How do I fix error code: VAL 31?

Error code val 31 is a Windows error code that indicates a problem with the registry. This error code can occur for a number of reasons, including a corrupt or damaged registry, a virus or malware infection, or a hardware issue. In most cases, this error code can be resolved by running a registry cleaner or by performing a clean boot of Windows.

1. Restart your computer

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Press the F8 key to access the boot menu.
  3. Select the option to start up in safe mode.
  4. If the error code still persists, press the F9 key to load the Advanced Boot Options menu.
  5. Select the option to restart your computer.

2. Update your drivers

  1. Under PCI devices, right click on the device that is having the error and select Update Driver
  2. In the Search for drivers on my computer box, type in “val31” and click on the result
  3. Click on the Next button
  4. In the Driver Installation Type box, select the option that is best for your computer
  5. Click on the Browse button
  6. In the Search for drivers on my computer box, type in “val31.inf” and click on the result
  7. Click on the Next button
  8. In the Update Driver Software dialog box, click on the Download button
  9. Save the val31.inf file to a location on your computer
  10. Click on the OK button
  11. Click on the Finish button
  12. Close Device Manager

3. Reinstall your drivers

In order to Reinstall your drivers in order to fix error code val 31, you will need to access your computer's hardware drivers via the Device Manager. To access the Device Manager, click on the Start button and type "device manager" into the Start search bar. Once the Device Manager appears on your computer, expand the "Hardware" category and then click on the "Driver" folder. Within the Driver folder, locate the "Intel" folder and then locate the "9 series Chipset Family" folder. Within the 9 series Chipset Family folder, locate the "9 series Chipset Support Software" folder. Within the 9 series Chipset Support Software folder, locate the "Intel(R) Management Engine Interface" folder. Within the Intel(R) Management Engine Interface folder, locate the "Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver" folder. Within the Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver folder, locate the "Validated Drivers for Windows 10 x64" folder. Within the Validated Drivers for Windows 10 x64 folder, locate the "9 series Chipset Family" folder and then locate the "9 series Chipset Support Software" folder. Within the 9 series Chipset Support Software folder, locate the "Validated Drivers for Windows 10 x64" folder and then locate the "Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver" folder. Within the Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver folder, locate the "Install_Intel_Graphics_Driver.bat" file. Double-click on the Install_Intel_Graphics_Driver.bat file to run it. In the Install_Intel_Graphics_Driver.bat file, specify the path to the "Intel Graphics Driver" folder that you copied to your computer earlier. For example, if the "Intel Graphics Driver" folder is located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\intelgraphics, specify C:\Windows\System32\drivers\intelgraphics\ as the path to the "Intel Graphics Driver" folder. Click on the "Start" button to begin the installation process. Once the installation process is complete, you will be able to restart your computer and fix error code val 31.

4. Run a virus scan

In order to run a virus scan, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Windows Security Center by clicking on the Start button, typing "Security Center" in the search bar, and selecting Security Center from the list of results.
  2. In the Security Center, click on the Virus Protection link.
  3. In the Virus Protection window, click on the Scan Now button.
  4. In the Scan Results window, verify that the Scan Results table shows the error code val 31. If the error code is not listed, click on the Add (+) button to add it to the table.
  5. In the Security Center, click on the Action button to take the appropriate action based on the results of the scan.
  6. Close the Virus Protection window.
